Classic Plate Dropdown

A classic plate division is a consolation bracket where losers from the quarter finals of a main Single elimination bracket drop into their own bracket to compete to determine places 5th – 8th.

There are only 4 competitors in a classic plate dropdown since there are only 4 losers of the quarter final matches. Those players start in the semi final round of the classic plate division.

Players losing in the first round of the classic plate dropdown compete for 7th and 8th place. Winners of the first round advance to the finals round and play for 5th and 6th place.

Advantages:

Allows final standings in a division to be determined up to 8 places.

Disadvantages:

More matches need to be played, so if your event has is limited on available time it could cause problems.

Many are not happy having to play another time for a low standing, and these matches tend to have more no shows unless the final place means something, like qualifying for a team, or winning a better prize.
