Double Round Robin Brackets

Double round robin brackets are draws that take a round robin schedule and repeat the games a second time. All players compete against each other twice in the same sequence.

Double round robin brackets are displayed by participant in a schedule format so it is easy to see all future game times listed by competitor. This layout style is most commonly used for leagues and seasons when a schedule is given out for the teams. Tournaments more often use the double round robin tournament chart.

Double round robin brackets are frequently used in leagues with a small number of teams so the season can be extended over a longer period of time.

Advantages:

Double Round Robin Brackets are ideal for creating more games during a season or league when there are a small number of teams.

A participant can still place high in the final standings after losing a few early games.

When home field advantage is important, the teams play as both home and away against each opponent.

Disadvantages:

It takes twice the number of matches as a normal round robin tournament brackets, and there may not be enough available time to fit in all the games that need to be played.

Teams losing badly in early rounds will probably lose badly against the same team again when the order repeats.

Incentive to play later rounds would be lost when teams lose several early games.
